Compared to the bathroom and kitchen, the laundry is often the forgotten room. That’s understandable, as it doesn’t really conjure up images of fun family times or warm relaxation like the kitchen and bathroom can! However, transforming the laundry into a smart, user-friendly space may be simpler than you think, and provide great relief to the person in your house who does the bulk of the washing.
Moving washing machine and laundry water and waste pipes may result in a far superior floor plan for your laundry. Or simply upgrading your fittings (for example, replacing your washing machine taps with more discreet mini-stops) may enhance the visual aesthetic of the room.

Ideas for your laundry
- Move the pipes. Relocating the washing machine and laundry water and waste pipes can give you a better floor plan.
- Tidy the taps. Swap traditional washing machine taps for discreet mini-stops.
- Short on space? Glenn’s 2018 trends post suggested converting the laundry into another usable space with a European-style laundry.
- Plenty of room? Make it a multi-purpose space, like the mudroom or utility room, with areas for shoes, coats, umbrellas and school bags.
- Choose efficient appliances. If you’re planning an update, opt for energy-efficient products.
